Master of Public Health - International Public Health Specialization- Online / Distance Learning

The fully online Master of Public Health (MPH) with a specialisation track in International Public Health provides students with the knowledge and tools to analyse the factors that influence public health in an international environment. Focusing on intervention strategies that respond to health needs worldwide, students explore the ways in which health inequalities influence health outcomes. Topics covered include the policy and programme challenges of low to middle income countries, crisis and disaster management and communicable diseases. This specialization prepares students for senior positions in International Public Health.

The course offers a comprehensive analysis of infectious disease, nutrition, environmental health, health infrastructure, and health project management in an international context, particularly focusing on health issues in low income countries. Intervention strategies which cover worldwide health needs are also explored. Modules include Qualitative Methods for Public Health Research, Management of Health systems, and Public Health Issues in Low Income Countries.

Application and Admission Requirements

Learning outcomes of the International Public Health Masters:

At the end of the Online International Public Health Masters programme you will have acquired the skills to undertake and interpret public health research, both epidemiological and qualitative, and you will have a command of ethical research practice. You will be able to critically appraise health promotion practice in different healthcare systems, evaluate and design Health Impact Assessments and compare and contrast methods of health economic analysis.

You will demonstrate a mastery of the issues surrounding communicable diseases, environmental threats, health and social policy and the issues facing low income countries. In doing so, you will gather, analyse and interpret information from a variety of sources and derive and apply insight from a range of disciplines to identify and respond to public health problems. You will thus acquire an excellent basis for a high-level career in public health management.

Duration of the Master of International Public Health:

The Online International Public Health Masters programme takes on average 30 months to complete. However, since students progress at their own pace, you may choose to complete your studies in as little as 24 months or spread them over 60 months.

International Public Health Masters

The MPH with a specialisation track in International Public Health comprises two preparatory modules, five core modules, three specialisation modules, and culminates with a dissertation in a topic relevant to the study of International Public Health.

Students will follow two non-credit bearing modules (Student Readiness Orientation and Foundations for Academic Success) that will prepare them for their online learning experience.

The first module will be nine weeks in length (two half weeks and seven full weeks). Each subsequent module lasts eight weeks. Students take one modules at a time in order to study a specific subject in-depth without distractions.

Dissertation

Students refine their dissertation topic in conjunction with their Personal Dissertation Advisor, an academic supervisor who will provide support throughout the writing process.
