A Flexible, Convenient Approach to Study : Made for Executives

The Edinburgh EMBA has been designed to fulfill the needs of working executives and in doing so, reflects the specific scheduling and career requirements of real professionals. With the ultimate goal of helping executives achieve their long-term career goals, the EMBA offers a highly customizable and practical curriculum.

With a blended learning approach, candidates of the Edinburgh EMBA will meet approximately once monthly for a combination of face-to-face classroom sessions, online learning support and guest workshops, seminars and special events. Courses are either held over a two-day period (Friday-Saturday; 8:30am-6:00pm) or in week-long residency blocks. Between course periods and throughout the program, candidates will receive personal support in the form of leadership coaching,

Application and Admission Requirements

Admissions  

In order to qualify for the Edinburgh Full-Time MBA, candidates must have achieved the following:

  • 5+ years of substantive work experience (experience can be from any industry, in both the private and public sectors)
  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited university (2:1 honours) or international equivalent
    • Candidates who do not meet the formal degree requirement, but hold alternative qualifications or significant work experience, may also be considered. 
  • GMAT score of 600 (preferred)
  • High proficiency in English

Application Processes

The following must be included in all applications:

  • A personal statement of 500 words
  • A statement of career motivation of 500 words
  • An English language CV
  • 2 references (at least one must come from a senior professional colleague)
  • Formal documentation of all degrees and transcripts
  • Official GMAT scores, if applicable
  • Proof of English ability (for non-native speakers)
    • IELTS (7.0), PTE (67), CPE (B), CAE (A) or TOEFL (100)

Graduates will be awarded an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) from the University of Edinburgh Business School, University of Edinburgh. the university of Edinburgh Business School is a triple accredited business school, holding accreditations from the AMBA, AACSB and EQUIS.

Program Structure

Over the course of 27 months, the semi-modular Edinburgh Executive MBA provides an immersive programs in contemporary business practice. During the first year, candidates will complete a series of core courses and work through elective courses, build leadership skills and participate in an international study trip during the second year. The EMBA will come to an end with the Capstone Consultancy Project.

Many courses are held once monthly, in weekend blocks. Others are held in week-long blocks.

  • Understanding Economies (Prof. Jonathan Crook): With a focus on macroeconomics, develop an informed understanding of contemporary economic issues.

Year 1 - January-March

  • Leadership and Responsibility (Dr. Jim Hine): The role of morals and ethics in decision-making, and the corresponding corporate impact.
  • Organizing for Effectiveness (Prof. Nick Oliver): Develop your intellectual tool kit for understanding and managing with complex organizational settings.

Year 1 - April (Full week)

  • Strategic Leadership 2 (Prof. Susan Murphy)
  • Leadership and Professional Develop (Amanda Singleton): Skills-based programme designed to enhance leadership and professional competence.
  • Introduction to Quantitative Methods and Tools (Dr. Maurizio Tomasella): Develop an understanding of basic probability, statistics, and spreadsheet modeling to support management decision-making.

Year 1 - May-July

  • Accounting (Prof. Falconer Mitchell): Decipher the language of business to better inform decisions, judge opportunities and reward people.
  • Operations Improvement (Dr. Ian Graham): Learn about Lean Operations, Service Design and Operational Riks to support strategic objectives.

Year 2 - September-November

  • Finance (Dr. Gbenga Ibikunle): Critical foundations for effective business decisions. A focus on the foundations of financial analysis and decision-making.
  • Creative Strategy (Prof. Chris Carter): In complex, ambiguous and fast-changing environments, how do managers ddevelop creative competitive strategies?

Year 2 - December-February

  • Entrepreneurial Leadership (Prof. Richard Harrison): Learn the benefit of entrepreneurship in large organizations and how it can be integrated into more familiar approaches of corporate management.
  • Leading Strategic Change (Prof. John Amis): Exposes the messy, non-linear ways organizational change happens and helps define the leader's role in contouring the process.

During this period of the program, candidates will conduct a final Capstone Project, which will entail in-depth research into a substantial business problem, the creation of a business plan, a consultancy project or specialist research.
