Description of Ross Full-time MBA

Action-based learning provides an experience you won’t get from a case, a lecture, or even most internships. It exposes you to uncertainty. It puts you on the edge. And it’s designed to foster resilience.

Action-based learning takes many forms at Ross.

  • Scope and address a real problem, and then make actionable recommendations for a real firm through our signature Multidisciplinary Action Projects (MAP) course.
  • Manage a $3 million venture capital fund through the Zell Lurie Institute.
  • Spenda week abroad consulting with real companies on market entry issues, joint ventures, and strategic alliances through the Global ProjectsCourse.
  • Partner with students in theCollege of Engineering and the School of Art & Design to research, design, manufacture, and market a fully functional, customer-readyprototype of an actual product through the Integrated Product Development Course.
  • Participate in the Ross Leadership Initiative’s annual Crisis Challenge, an intense simulation in which competing teams of students inhabit the roles of corporate leaders coping with a devastating crisis.

Curriculum

The Ross MBA curriculum prepares you to lead by offering a combination of rigorous fundamentals, practical experience, and the freedom to explore. We want you to leave with broader aspirations, the tools to achieve them, and the confidence to pursue them.

Year One: Absorb the Fundamentals … Then Test Them

The first year core features four seven-week terms: Fall A, Fall B, Winter A, and Winter B. The first three terms give you a broad grounding in the fundamentals of

  • accounting
  • business economics and public policy
  • business information technology
  • finance
  • law, history, and communication
  • management and organizations
  • marketing
  • operations and management science
  • strategy

In the fourth term, you put the core to work in the Multidisciplinary Action Project (MAP) course, integrating your analytical tools with teamwork and leadership development on a strategic consulting project inside an actual firm or organization.

Year Two: Electives

In the second year, choose electives at Ross and other top-ranked graduate and professional schools at the University of Michigan. You may want to broaden your MBA to explore social enterprise, emerging markets, or operations. Perhaps you are interested in entrepreneurial management or environmentally sustainable business. Ross also offers more than 20 dual-degree options in cooperation with other U-M schools and colleges. You’ll need to take enough coursework to complete 57 total graduate credit hours during your two years at Ross.

Expenses

At Ross, we believe that the lack of necessary financial resources should not be a barrier to attending our MBA Program. A number of scholarships, fellowships, and guaranteed loan packages are available, and approximately two-thirds of students at Ross receive some form of financial aid.
